I Promise He’s Not Worth The Heartache

I promise you he’s not worth it.

Trust me, I know it’s hard to hear that. Especially right now, when the wounds are still fresh and the memories are still sweet; the love is still there.

I know he was the best part of your every day. I know he was the one that made you excited to get up in the morning. I know he was the one you fell asleep dreaming about at night. But he wasn’t The One.

Wanna know why? It’s as simple as this: He didn’t stay. You compromised, you fought, you begged, you pleaded, you prayed, but he let you go. And that is reason enough to let him go. That is reason enough to believe that he wasn’t worth it.

I know it’s hard to hear that, too, especially when he wasn’t a bad guy. He didn’t cheat on you or mistreat you or belittle you. But just because he wasn’t bad to you doesn’t mean he was good to you. Again, JUST BECAUSE HE WASN’T BAD TO YOU DOESN’T MEAN HE WAS GOOD TO YOU.

How many times did you cry when he stopped putting in effort? How many times did you cry when you felt unappreciated? How many times did you cry when you felt forgotten? How many times did you cry when you were together? I know I cried plenty, and you know what the funny thing is? He never even knew about it.

He thought I was this carefree girl that didn’t let the little stuff get to her. I tried to be that girl. Once upon a time, I was that girl, but that was before my heart was on the line. It was before I fell for him. And the uncertainty of whether or not he felt the same way made it impossible for me to be that vulnerable with him.

I guess what I’m trying to say here is that not only was he not perfect, but the relationship was also not perfect. Realizing that is what helped me make peace with it all. I hope counting all the ways he made you cry while you were together helps you stop crying over the fact that you’re not together anymore.
